Are my new retainers supposed to hurt like hell?

I've had my braces of for like 5 years now and I wear my clear plastic retainers every night. If I don't wear em for like a night or two my teeth hurt a little and I know it's because of them shifting. My old retainers got loose and old so the orthodontist took a mold of my teeth and made me new ones. Tonight was the first night i wear them. When i put them on they fit a little tight. But i just woke up and they really hurt. Like really badly, I can't even touch my teeth with my tounge because they're really sensitive. Are the new retainers supposed to hurt like this? I thought since they are new and they fit my teeth exactly how they should they wouldn't.
